In the next few weeks I have to complete the most amount of travel I’ve ever done in a similar period. Including journeys to places like Panama, Cape Verde, Portugal, Hong Kong, Cyprus, Italy and others.

The first of a series of journeys would include 9 flights over 4 days and was to start the Monday just past. But I didn’t get very far.

Volcanic ash spread across Europe, causing flight disruption to many flights.

My first flight was on time. My second flight 7 hours delayed. My third flight I changed to a flight that just got me back home – as the people I was meeting could also not make it to the destination.

It was all summarised by the following conversation:

- This is peculiar. You should have had a biometric photo taken before you got here. How did you get here without going through the scanning area?

- I don’t know

- Where are you travelling to?

- Manchester

- Where are you travelling from?

- Manchester.
